I love my vegetables. But when it comes to getting enough of them whilst on the move it can sometimes be a struggle. Recently I was listening to a podcast about smart passive income with Pat Flynn. The guys being interviewed by Pat were called simple green smoothies. The run an amazing website, you know one of those sites that when you find it you think where has this been all my life?

4 times a year the guys ver at simple green smoothies rock a challenge. The send a bunch of recipes to your inbox. That email contains a shopping list for that week’s fresh fruit and vegetables. Down at the bottom of this post I list what was on that shopping list for this week. Most of the recipes contain 2 servings but being a very active individual I find that I can drink most of it in one go.

My previous experiments with making green smoothies has been pretty poor. Often this was due to the ingredients not blending correctly. One of the first things that the guys over at simple green smoothies taught me was that you have to put your greens and your liquids in together at first and then add your fruit later. The recommended ratio for vegetables to fruit is 40% and 60%. Once you have a good blender like one of the new nutribullets or a fancy blender like a blendtec you are almost guaranteed to have something delicious and healthy.

Most people will take a look at a green smoothie and think it looks disgusting. However once you started to experiment a bit and make a few substitutions they really are delicious. I have found using spinach and coconut water is one of my favorite combinations. This is pretty good by itself but when I add a banana and a peach or pear it turns into a delicious green smoothie.

The 30 day challenge does not require you to change your diet, you simply add one green smoothie, one serving everyday. The emails that the guys at simple green smoothies send every week are fantastic. They provide you with a list of all the healthy produce you need to buy each week. It doesn’t have to cost too much, you can shop all the fruit that is on sale that week or throw in some frozen fruit. Frozen fruit can sometimes be dangerous. It’s often recommended to boil before using. This can defeat the purpose of a cool refreshing smoothie. Personally I found a few bananas and summer cheaper on sale fruits work really well.

I would highly recommend you check out the website and challenge. It is an easy adjustment and great way to form new habits.
